Unveiling the Musical Journey of Nikki, the Bassist of Dead Mountain Talk

Updated: Apr 10

Nikki's musical roots trace back to the sounds of video games and cartoons, where exposure to melody and rhythm sparked a lifelong fascination with music. She began playing low brass in sixth grade, eventually, moving up the bass trombone section, performing with her high school marching band. At the same time, Nikki was developing her own musical identity being immersed in flatground freestyle skateboarding, soaking up the energy and raw spirit of skate culture really influenced her, that same love continues to shaper her style and presence.

Nikki's musical taste leans heavily toward European rock, with HIM standing as a core influence and favorite. She also draws inspiration from The Rasmus (especially their early funk/ska era), the goth rock of The 69 Eyes, and the distinctive songwriting of CKY's Deron Miller. These artists inform her dark-toned, emotionally rich playing style.

Today, Nikki plays fretless bass her instrument of choice is a late 80's Japanese Fender Jazz Bass Special, which evokes the resonance and tone she once loved in brass. Her basslines provide depth and atmosphere to Dead Mountain Talk's textured sound.

She joined Dead Mountain Talk in 2021, becoming a core member of the group's lineup. Nikki brings musical depth to the band's creative process. She holds a deep respect for Harper and Travis, the brothers who founded the band, and considers herself lucky to make music alongside their vision and heart.

Offstage, she's an avid collector of nostalgic media- Vinyl, VHS, tapes, trading cards, retro games and still creates time for skateboarding.
